A cabbage takes many weeks to grow. As they form, each young leaf is pushed outward by the next. The tender things are packed so tightly that one follows the contour of the last. Cabbages can be found in most grocers and convenience stores, along with the other day to day necessities. Nearby, despite their falling out of favour, you can still find newspapers stacked at the front of the store. As you leaf through their pages, you find an account of the day's events.
After work I bring both back to my studio. The newspaper is painted with glue. Each layer follows the last, and each takes a day to dry, so the work is slow but regular. It is my account.
